Let's Hope This Is More Productive Than Congress!

I got approval yesterday to start a garden on top of our apartment complex's building! I've recruited the help of a few neighbors and to document the transformation of the space and to share the successes and failures of our attempt at rooftop gardening, I figured I'd start a blog!

Here is the plot our building is allowing us to use:

Biodegradable starter pots and a variety of seeds:

Just planted:

Last year I had a little container garden on my stoop and had a surprisingly successful crop of cucumbers, green & purple string beans, cherry tomatoes, romaine lettuce and zucchini. This year, since we have a much bigger plot to work with, I'm hoping to expand this to include:

Red Peppers
JalapeƱos
Mesclun
Kale
Baby spinach
Carrots
Watermelon
Cantaloupe
Eggplant
Yellow Summer Squash
Sugar Peas
Cilantro
Purple Basil
Garlic Chives

Wish us luck!
